Think Friday: Cummings and Goings

There’s no doubt that the biggest political story of the week has been around Dominic Cummings and his decision to drive his family to Durham while suffering from symptoms of covid-19. At the heart of this story are issues of integrity and compassion, our responsibility to our families and each other as neighbours and citizens. These challenges and tensions will apply and remain for each of us, as together we seek to navigate our way out of this situation in the days and months ahead. As Christians our attitudes and actions around these issues will form part of our worship and witness.

Goings

This week our research assistants leave us for pastures new. While it hasn’t been the year we had planned in many ways we have been so blessed by having them with us. Xander is heading off to work for a Church in England, James is beginning his PhD studies and Lisa is preparing for a future in the legal profession. As they leave us, we leave them with these words from Hebrews 10, ‘Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.’

Abortion update and call to action

In the past few days we have been made aware of the following motion which is being discussed at the Northern Ireland Assembly on Tuesday 2 June.

"That this Assembly welcomes the important intervention of disability campaigner Heidi Crowter and rejects the imposition of abortion legislation which extends to all non-fatal disabilities, including Down's syndrome."

A strong vote in support of this motion in the Northern Ireland Assembly, will not in itself change the law, however it would send a strong and important message to MPs at Westminster who are due to pass the final stage of the NI abortion regulations in the next few weeks. We would really encourage you to take just 5 minutes to send an email to your local MLAs asking them to support this motion. You can do this easily using www.writetothem.com

Finally

In your own comings and goings this weekend may you be stirred up to love one another and to do good works which witness to the hope we have in our faithful Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Blessings,

The Evangelical Alliance NI Team
